Fashion for older women has changed completely. It's a huge industry now, and more and more advertisers are realising that. Visually people want something that is more realistic." says Elaine Dugas, director of the older models division at Models 1, one of the Europe's top agencies.

French supermodel Inès de Fressange stole the show as Jean Paul Gaultier showed off his couture collection in Paris yesterday, AFP reports. The 50-year-old Fressange, an iconic model of the '80s but long absent from the catwalk, drew applause from the crowd as she appeared in a body-hugging black gown.
Gaultier said Fressange was ideal for showing off his sensual Spanish-themed designs and to demonstrate models "are not just 14-year-olds," and that there is no age "barrier to beauty." Fressange was moved by the warm reception but said the return to the catwalk was a one-off. "This is not my job anymore," she said.

An increasing number of designer brands are planning to turn to celebrities in their 40s and 50s to sell their exclusive lines in 2009.
At his spring 2009 menswear show in June, designer Yohji Yamamoto sent grey-haired models in their 60s down the catwalk and Louis Vuitton's latest "Legends" advert stars Sean Connery. The series may have already featured Mikhail Gorbachev and Keith Richards, but at 78 Connery is the oldest legend yet.
Stephanie Seymour, 40, stars in the spring and summer 2009 Valentino ad in a shoot portraying her as "a contemporary deity, an iconic and timeless beauty", according to the Italian fashion house. She starred in catwalk shows for a number of top fashion houses, including Louis Vuitton and Hermès.
Actors Jerry Hall, 52, and 44-year-old Monica Bellucci are both appearing in campaigns for next year's collections - Hall for Chanel and Bellucci for Dior accessories.
Designer Vivienne Westwood - has also turned to an iconic older model: Pamela Anderson, 41, is set to appear in the campaign for Westwood's Red Label collection.
Katie Baron, fashion production and bookings editor at Harper's Bazaar, said: "For a magazine like ours, older women and celebrities offer another dimension, a level of experience and charisma which can sometimes be difficult to parallel. It's also worth remembering that the most influential people in the fashion industry are now women of a similar age to the older models and celebs being featured."
