Thanks for sharing this interview. Understanding the roots is important to me, as I just started to explore the beauty of the this art and the powerful emotional moments it can create.
Gee, that was a bloodthirsty read.
While it is, of course, interesting to know what the original use of Shibari was, I hardly see a necessity for transporting these killing ties into todays world.

I totally agree with you, as I believe Haru-to-Kyou would too. But, there are some important factors maybe overlooked in the interview and instruction that took place 5 months ago. Like all the figures I come into contact with in Japan over the years, we strike up friendships and maintain contacts (e.g. I have been trying to improve my rusty Japanese by tandem Skypes with Kazami Ranki). You have to realise that these interviews are like the top of an iceberg, and 90% of what gets discussed is always off-the-record.
There are certain key points I'd like to make:
• Erotic tying is as old as penal tying.
• Japanese Shinto attitudes to sex and eroticism wildly differ from our monotheistic influences by the lack of a concept of chastity.
• Samurai were not ‘knights in shining armour’ but nasty, evil henchmen serving their lords.
• What we think we know about historical uses of rope are about as catalogued as norse methods of dishwashing.
• Rope handling technique only scratches the surface of what is possible with Kinbaku/Shibari/Rope Bondage/insert preferred terminology here, however,
• After more than 3 decades tying, Haru-to-Kyou (and Kyouki) introduced me to finite details I'd never seen anywhere else that vastly improve my own approach to what it is I do with ladies and a bit of rope.
• The more sources one can absorb from, the more refined one becomes.
• Beware of people claiming to know things whose primary aim is to take your money.
