To celebrate the winter solstice this year we decided to try something a little different. Sunrise Session II features my friend Josin on vocals and 13 wonderful musicians from the Reykjavík Recording Orchestra.
On this shortest day of the year, this is our tribute to brighter days ahead and I truly hope you enjoy it.
Recorded in Harpa Concert Hall — Reykjavík, Iceland — on the shortest day of the year.
The lyrics of the song tell about the cold and dark Northern winters, when some of us would rather spend the whole winter in a sweet sleep. But there is something inside us that keeps us going - works that need to be done and thoughts that need to be gathered, because the old year is almost at its end and the new one is coming! Also according to Latvian traditions during the Christmas period people were masking to bring happines and fertility to everyones houses.
The mask images are a combination of both - Latvian and other culture traditions, but the essence is the same - to bring happiness, fertility, drive away darkness and laziness!
